Brief Historical Survey

1909 The Lycée de Jeunes Filles (LJFL) is founded by a private association It is the first Luxembourg school of secondary education for girls.
1911 The Lycée de Jeunes Filles is taken over by the State.
1920 The construction of the present Lycée starts.
1926 The old part of the present Lycée is inaugurated.
1971 Coeducation is introduced at the Lycée.
1972 The LycÈe de Jeunes Filles is renamed Lycée Robert-Schuman (LRSL).
1979 The modernization of the LycÈe and the construction of a new wing start.
1987 The modernized LRSL is inaugurated.

Situation

Situated in the heart of Europe, between France, Belgium and Germany, the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg has always been a crossroads of civilisations and cultures.

The high proportion of foreign residents, the development of the service industries and tourism have enhanced the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the country and its capital.

At a 5 minutes' walk from the centre of Luxembourg-City, the lycée is situated close to the European institutions and the administrative, cultural and commercial heart of the city.

Near a large parking space and with excellent public transport connections (bus 4), the lycée is easily reached and located in pleasant surroundings, close to the municipal park.

Facts and Figures


The Lycée Robert-Schuman is one of nine lycées in the country (one of four in the city of Luxembourg).

Over 7 years (from 7e to 1re), all the basic courses of a so-called classical lycÈe (as opposed to the lycÈes techniques) are taught at the LRSL, i.e. arts, biology, chemistry, civic instruction, computer science, economics, geography, history, mathematics, languages (English, French, German, Luxembourgish and, optionally, Latin, Italian and Spanish), music, philosophy, physical education, physics, social sciences.

Both classical (with Latin) and modern (without Latin), literary and scientific streams are offered.

In the last two years, the following sections can be chosen: A1 (languages), A2 (general humanities), B (mathematics), C (natural sciences) and D (economics). Sections E (arts) and F (music) are not available at present at the LRSL.
